Lakewood senior Andrew Molloy is welcomed at home plate by his team after hitting a home run May 4 against Bellingham. The Cougars won 8-3 in a winner-to-district game. 

Lakewood earned a spot in the District 1 2A baseball tournament thanks to an 8-3 win over Bellingham May 4 in a winner-to-district game. 

Cougar baseball coach Jackson Conn said in an email pitcher sophomore Wyatt Pevny got the win against Bellingham striking out six batters in five-and-two-thirds innings. 

At the plate, senior Gavin Schultz went 1-3 with a triple and three RBIs, senior Andrew Molloy went 1-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Pevny had three singles, sophomore Jackson Griffin and sophomore Noah Irish each had a single and an RBI. 

Lakewood has a 5-12 record in the Northwest Conference and an 8-14 record overall and earned the 10th seed in the tournament. 

The Cougars played Anacortes May 7 but came up short 6-0. Lakewood plays May 10 against Sedro-Woolley at Volunteer Park.
