Hello Marysville and welcome to “The Berry Patch.”

It is hard to believe, but the 87th Marysville Strawberry Festival is now in the history books as they say. A successful and enjoyable event was enjoyed by thousands. The success of the Festival is due to the total commitment and dedication of the Maryfest Inc. Board of Directors, Committee Directors and the Volunteers who have put in countless hours of hard work to make sure this year’s event went off without a hitch. As I have said before, this could not happen without our great sponsors, Mayor Jon Nehring and the total support of the City of Marysville departments. To all of you, thank you so much for your support.

For the events held outside, the weather cooperated, which is always a plus. Sadly, one of those events, the Fashion Show/Luncheon, was held for the last time at Leifer Manor, a true Marysville Landmark. Donna Johnson Leifer, owner of Leifer Manor, has decided to step away from operating the Manor and retire. Leifer Manor, which was once home to Mr. and Mrs. Leifer, is located on property that was once Leifer Berry Farm. This was a family operation and several Leifer families lived in homes on the property. The Berry Farm itself, was quite large and took up a large portion of the property to the east of the Leifer homes. So many of us picked berries at Leifer’s when we were kids and grew up with the Leifer and Earnheart kids. Many years ago, the farm was divided and homes built where once big, beautiful red berries grew. We want to thank Donna for all her years of support and dedication to this community and for adding yet another page to the Marysville History Book of Memories.

Although the Festival has concluded for this year, there is more to come. I will continue to update the journey of our award-winning float during the remainder of the travel season and inform you of other events leading up to the planning of the 88th Marysville Strawberry Festival. As always, we continue to seek new volunteers, new ideas and critique of existing events, so if are interested in being a volunteer or have ideas for an event, please contact the Festival office at 360-659-7664.
