The crash occurred in the 11400 block of Quil Ceda Blvd., north of the Seattle Premium Outlets. Just prior to the collision a Marysville Police Officer observed a gray 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee driving recklessly south bound on Smokey Point Blvd. The officer believed the driver of the Jeep may have been impaired, and attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle. The Jeep Cherokee failed to stop and attempted to elude the officer by turning west onto 116th St. N.E. and accelerating.
After crossing over I-5, the fleeing Jeep Cherokee turned onto southbound Quil Ceda Blvd. The Jeep Cherokee enter a roundabout going in the wrong direction, going to the left of the roundabout. At this point the Jeep Cherokee struck a sedan passenger vehicle head-on, violently knocking the passenger vehicle back and leaving its occupants injured. The passenger vehicle was occupied by a 71-year-old male driver, and 71-year-old female passenger who were on their way home to Stanwood.
Immediately after the head-on collision, the driver of the suspect vehicle, Zachary Kier, fled the scene on foot, running into the woods. Kier left behind his two injured passengers, and the two injured occupants of the other passenger vehicle.
A K-9 search with the assistance of a Drone from a local Fire Department was unsuccessful in locating Kier.
The 71-year-old female from the passenger vehicle was taken to the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, in serious condition. The 71-year-old male driver was transported to a local hospital and has since been released.
The passengers of the suspect Jeep Cherokee were also transported to the hospital. The backseat passenger, a 34-year-old male from Snohomish County, sustained life threating injuries and is currently in ICU at Providence Regional Medical Center, Colby Campus in Everett. The 35-year-old female, from the front seat of the suspect vehicle, was later released from the hospital with no serious injuries.
Investigators have identified the driver as Zachary Kier, a 27-year-old male from Seattle. Kier is currently wanted by the Department of Corrections (DOC) for Probation Violations. Kier is also wanted by the Marysville Police Department on Felony charges of Vehicular Assault, Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, Felony Hit and Run, and Possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute.
