A new Batteries Plus Bulbs franchise has opened in Smokey Point offering a number of specialty batteries and services.

The store had their first day on July 16 and is located at 4008 172nd St. NE, Arlington.

They sell a wide variety of different batteries and lightbulbs, and also offer a number of different services, said Erik Granroth, owner of the new location.

"We do a lot of different types of phone screen repair," he said, including tablets.

The business offers free battery installation for retail and free battery testing. They also have key fob repair and key cutting for automobiles.

Granroth hopes that the service will help attract customers to the new store.

"It's kind of like how Radio Shack used to be, in that you could go into a Radio Shack and there was somebody that was truly knowledgable about all the products. They provided a service instead of just a checkout clerk," he said.

Staff at the store will be able to help people find their items quickly, he said.

"People don't want to wander around the store and browse, they want something specific," he said.

Batteries Plus Bulbs also features a number of items that most people will have trouble finding elsewhere, said Granroth.

"We have a large household devices section. Everything from Roomba vacuums to dog training collars, those specialty things that you're just not going to find elsewhere," he said.

They also have a selection of rechargeable items.

"People go to the big box stores and they buy rechargeable items, but those stores don't sell any rechargeable batteries, so we have some of those," he said.

Items not at the store can also be ordered.

"We have access to thousands of more products that we can special order for them," said Granroth.

The business is also capable of working with other organizations and businesses.

"Another huge part of this business which people don't always see is the commercial side. About 40 percent of our sales are direct commercial sales," said Granroth.

Granroth is a long-time Arlington community member and insurance agent.

"I've been around here for a long time and I still have my insurance agency. My daughter is 21 now and a licensed agent so she's helping run things smoothly there," he said.

The Arlington store is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
