It's a wrap!

The contest has ended, and two teams ended up in a near-dead heat for the top spot. Due to an accidental miscalculation, the wrong result was announced at the celebration dinner on June 21, but we don't want to take any credit away from the members of both teams who worked so hard.
The team with the highest percentage of weight lost was
The Fat and the Furious, a group of friends and family members led by team captain Rick Pederson. The team lost 169 pounds for a weight loss percentage of 13.23%.
Because of a typo, we announced that the winning team was
The Losers from Arlington Massage Therapy and Wellness. The Losers also did a fantastic job during the contest, losing 149.5 pounds for a 12.84% loss.
We apologize for the mix-up. Just like anything new, lessons are learned. But we're so proud of all our "Be a Loser" teams and their dedicated contestants.
See the article here.
The Losers are victorious!
The May 14 weigh-in showed most of the teams are still hard at it, while a few experienced some temporary setbacks.
Arlington Massage Therapy's team posted a total weight loss of 33.1 pounds this month, for a 3.07 percent result -- good for the top position!
Fourteen teams reported double-digit losses for month four of the contest.
This month's results puts the total weight loss so far at over 3,000 pounds!
The Arlington team that goes by the name Eagle Mommas posted a successful third month in the Outlook's "Be a Loser" contest to take the top loser spot. The team of six women lost 46 pounds in April, and have dropped over 91 pounds since the contest started in January.

Many of our Loser teams, including our own
North County Outlook team, had disappointing results for this second weigh-in. The initial excitement of the contest has worn off, and any resolution is difficult to keep, day after day. But with the warmer weather, we can all start walking and enjoying the outdoors again, and picking up fresh fruit at the grocery store. Hang in there!

Hundreds sign up for better health
The forms just kept coming, more and more teams
registering for the paper's first "Be a Loser" community-wide weight
loss challenge. The participants came up with creative team names like
"Lose Your Big Fat Butt" (my personal favorite), "Calorie
Crunchers" and "Wii B Fit."
By the time registration was closed, nearly 60
teams-representing almost 400 people-made a commitment to better health in the
spirit of friendship, support and some friendly competition.
Getting all those folks accounted for at our volunteer
weigh-in facilities proved to be a bit of a challenge. With enthusiasm running
high, many teams flooded into the clinics and health clubs en masse Monday
morning, overwhelming staff members who had been told the teams would
"trickle in" throughout the week.
No matter. By mid-week, with most of the weigh-ins
complete and stats reported, things were perking again.
Team captains are on the ball, getting forms signed and
turned in, e-mailing or calling with questions, taking team photos and
generally being great cheerleaders.
We're very excited to see the team weight totals getting
smaller as we go along, our own included. Marysville and the surrounding areas
have been tagged as the "fattest city" in the state, and we're all
determined to lose that distinction!
Be sure to read the Outlook every issue as we follow
these teams to success and better health. We'll check up and report team totals
in the second issue each month, with the contest final results announced June
17.
Maybe this public effort will inspire others to make more
personal lifestyle changes as well. Let us know if you're playing along.
Here's to good health and active living!
