Editor,

As I'm writing this letter, my hands are trembling. It's Saturday morning and I should be cleaning my house or taking the dog for a walk. Instead, I'm glued to my TV set, engulfed by the horror of news of another mass murder at the hands of a deranged gunman.

Seventy victims at the hands of one shooter, in a span of just a few moments. Armed with a shotgun, handgun and semi-automatic rifle, and carrying thousands of rounds of ammunition, this man was clearly intent on murder. He fired indiscriminately into a crowd of people, children and adults, with no rhyme or reason.

We may never know why this young man committed this horrific act. God willing, we will also never understand the grief and agony that surrounds the victims and their families at this time.

But we do know this: America's gun laws are the most lenient in the world, and our rate for violent crimes is the highest. I suspect there is a correlation.
