Shame on burglars

Editor,

I was shocked and appalled to read about the burglars who took advantage of a family's time of grief to ransack and pillage their homes (Police seek funeral burglars, April 5, 2012). How devastating for those mourning a loss to come home and find precious possessions, even momentos of their departed loved one, carted off by some callous criminals. The feeling of being violated must be nearly unbearable.

I realize that most crimes boil down to motive and opportunity, and these thieves were using the opportunity of an empty home to satisfy their motive of greed. Shame on them!

I hope the police catch up with these two hooligans, and any others like them, quickly. I hope justice is swift and reasonable.

But most of all, I hope those victimized families will be able to once again sleep at night, knowing those who took advantage of their grief are safely locked up.

Shame on them.
