Editor,

I am so proud of our community that a few months ago I worte a letter to the White House to explain how people here are working together to keep superior education alive in our schools, which includes a strong music program. Image how stunned I was to get a personal response from the President of the United States himself.

Among other things, he told me, "I am inspired by messages of hope and determination from people across our country," and "I have found that Americans can achieve extraordinary things when we work together." He thanked me twice for having written him. I wanted to share this example of how even the smallest gestures can have a profound effect.

The Marysville-Pilchuck High School music program has achieved several remarkable goals with the support of this community. The city, Tribes, and various organizations have come together to provide the marching band with new custom-designed uniforms. The Tribes, in the past, has funded field equipment for the marching band and a string bass for the jazz band. A community member has come to the aid of the choir by donating a 100-year-old baby grand piano.

On behalf of the Marysville-Pilchuck Band Boosters, I am pleased to introduce a new and exciting project that could make a significant difference in continuing to meet the band's goals in the future. We are taking the dinner auction to a whole new level, recreating a 1940s night club complete with gourment dining, our own "big band," dancing and the glamour of the Tulalip Resort on April 21.

There are many ways to support this effort, both big and small. From sponsorship to donating auction items, or buying tickets to the event itself. Even if you simply pass on the information to someone else you know who would enjoy "An Affair to Remember," you are helping.

It's simple but true. Together we can achieve anything we have the vision to try.
