Cabin fever on steroids

I'm one of the lucky ones. For the most part, I can work from home just as easily as from our Marysville office. As long as I have my laptop, an Internet connection and a telephone, I'm set.

But even though I knew I could sit out last week's snow storm without too much impact on this issue of the paper, being house-bound was still pretty nerve-wracking.

Maybe it was because my husband and grown son were also stuck at home with me. So instead of a nice pleasant background of my favorite music on the iPod, I was subjected to the droning narration from endless TV shows about the end of the earth, dark matter, ancient aliens and how things are made.

Of course, my husband criticizes my viewing choices too. He leaves the room whenever "American Idol" or "Fringe" or "The Office" comes on. To each his or her own.

We didn't plan very well for this round of cabin fever. Not much food in the pantry or refrigerator, and we ran out of cheese (oh, the horror!) after just two days. We had to resort to homemade chicken soup for dinner and oatmeal for breakfast. Such a tough life!

We were also fortunate that our power stayed on the whole time, except for one very brief flicker. The power crew work done several years ago near Warm Beach to back up the Tulalip substation seems to have done its job. Thanks, P.U.D.!

It was good to get back to a regular schedule on Monday, and everyone had snow stories to share at the office. And now the snow is gone, and we can get back to complaining about the rain.
