Hope is in the stars

Thank goodness 2009 is over.

That was a tough year for many people and for many businesses. A lot of folks I know were running on reserves for awhile, as the economy slowed down and finally ground to a near-halt. But those rainy day funds run out all too quickly when it's pouring.

But now I'm beginning to hear more optimism, a renewed sense of opportunity and purpose, although it's unclear what has caused this shift in attitude.

The start of a new year (and maybe a new decade, although that fact is still being debated) is simply a matter of the sun setting and rising one more time, just like it always does. What makes us think that simply flipping a calendar page will change our circumstances?

For you doubters out there, the doom-and-gloomers who continue to predict financial apocalypse and the fall of western civilization, I can tell you that hope is on its way. My psychics told me so.

While researching the article on the psychic fairs hosted by two local bookstores (page 4), I was offered sample readings by three of the intuitive mediums-Ann, Sarah and Andrea. Although each used different tools for their consultation, the messages were quite similar. They all offered a glimpse of brighter tomorrows: the return of prosperity, resolution of some personal worries, a sense of health and well-being. Hooray!

Remarkably, each of the women also provided enlightening insight into my personality quirks, assurances about my daughter-in-law's difficult pregnancy, accurate assessments of my lower back problems and some surprising revelations along the way.

Days after the encounters with these three intelligent, down-to-earth women, I'm still thinking about their comments and connecting more dots. It's pretty powerful stuff.

But is it true? Are their "gifts" real? Do some people have a stronger connection to the vibrations of the universe than others? And is that divining talent a tool for good or evil?

Very heady questions, and I certainly don't have the answers. Personally, I'll keep an open mind...open to the possibilities that there's more to our lives than what we can see, feel, hear or touch. Whether that "something" is God, or a spirit guide, or the planets in our universe is beyond my comprehension.

But it's certainly better than looking to Wall Street or politicians for hope.
