Editor,

In the fall of 2002 my students and I were heavily engaged in working to build a memorial to honor killed in action veterans from the Marysville/Tulalip area. We had met with an architect and the estimated cost of the memorial was $20,000. We had never raised that much money for a single project before. At that point in time we were talking about a ten site, "super car wash" and a raffle. We made a presentation to afternoon Rotary and when we finished, two members approached us immediately with their offer to help us raise the $20,000 with an auction. Chris Nation was one of the Rotarians who offered his help. The auction was a success and we were able to get the memorial built. Chris's help was a key in achieving our goal. It is an excellent example of how much Chris cares about the community and the people in it.

Listening with care and concern are qualities I have come to appreciate in Chris. He can calmly take in more than one perspective on an issue and respond thoughtfully. He is very mindful of seeking the input of various stakeholders in the making of important decisions. When it comes to contentious issues these leadership qualities are so important.

Chris's willingness to serve is noteworthy and laudable. He has been involved in the school district for some years. He is currently the Chairman of the Bond Oversight Committee. He serves on the Citizens Facilities Committee and on the Vocational General Advisory Committee.

Chris Nation will make an excellent school board member. He has demonstrated his commitment to the community, his concern for kids and education, and his ability to lead.
