Get rid of panhandlers

Editor,

I'm so fed up with panhandlers in our city! You can't drive down the road or turn into a grocery store without being met by ragamuffins holding up signs that claim some hardship. Now the 88th Street intersection with State Avenue has become the home of several beggars dressed in some kind of "uniform," pretending to raise money.

I can't believe this activity is legal. These men are clearly not with any reputable organization. The patches on their white uniforms are held on with safety pins, for goodness sake. The cans they hold to collect donations are wrapped in some kind of illegible signage, but you can put anything on a sign. They disrupt traffic at an intersection that is already frustrating, and generally annoy people.

I am a generous person, and I give what I can to organizations that I trust to provide real services. I don't want to be harassed while I'm sitting in my car by beggars.

Please, can't the city outlaw this behavior? There must be a law!
