Editor,

Thank you to Marysville citizens who participated in the annual Shred-a-Thon event at E&E Lumber on April 25 by bringing their boxes of old personal and financial papers for shredding, in an effort to reduce their risk of becoming a victim of identity theft.

Special thanks to sponsors Rodland Toyota of Everett, HomeStreet Bank, the North County Outlook newspaper, Marysville Sunrise Rotary, City of Marysville, Vinaccio Coffee and the Marysville-Pilchuck Wesco North 4-A Championship varsity football team.

An estimated 180 residents arrived to watch as the American Data Guard truck and document shredder chewed the records down to an unrecognizable mix of paper thinner than confetti.

Identity theft is a very real concern these days. The annual Shred-a-Thon event sends the message to would-be identity thieves that our community is taking responsible steps to keep personal and financial documents from winding up in the wrong hands. Thanks to everyone for a successful event!
