Why is the City of Marysville refusing to renew the lease to Pat and Kathy Regan for the Cedar Crest Restaurant, located at the Cedar Crest Golf Course here in Marysville?

We here on the hill and the surrounding area are angered and confused by that decision and are questioning the reasons being given. We are ready to stand up and fight with and for our local family-friendly small business owners.

The city's reason? It needs the revenue! That's an excuse, not a reason. They cannot possibly reproduce the atmosphere that Pat and Kathy have spent their past five years developing. The revenue created by this family after giving up five years of their life, both day and night, belongs to them and their employees. Yes, most of us realize there is no harder business and no more time-consuming business to be in than the food industry.

Not for a minute do any of us believe that the City of Marysville is interested in running a restaurant. Tell us the real reason why the city wants to destroy a flourishing business that the Regan family has poured their entire life and savings into being what it is today. Does the City of Marysville really care so little about the welfare of its families and employees that they will refuse to renew a lease to a family who turned a prior "bankrupt" lease into a flourishing happy family oriented business?

We are just one of many families who frequent their restaurant, not just because they are close by, but because they choose to call us by name and talk to our children and cater to our needs. We are not treated as customers, we are treated as friends, and that is the way a local business should be.

Over 500 people signed a petition, so please tell us how we can change the city's agenda and help them understand that this restaurant does more than just feed their residents food. It feeds our need for friendship, it teaches our children hard work, and it helps our youth with part-time jobs. The Regans help us create the kind of community service we in the City of Marysville want to achieve.

I have a huge concern that the city may have an agenda, considering the new high school is going up and will be ready between 2010-2011. Do they want to achieve revenue from our high schoolers for cheap hamburgers, French fries and Cokes, to the detriment of our children's health rather than our neighborhood's overall good?

Yes, I have questions. I am concerned about what the City of Marysville has in mind.
