Letters to the Editor
Responses to abortion letter from 12/18
Editor,
Ignorance is not bliss!
In response to the letter that foolishly declares, "disasters are punishment for abortion policies" (Dec. 18, 2008), I am inclined to respond wholeheartedly. This is a classic example of how closed-minded our American socioty can be. Ever passionate about ending abortion, you neglect to mention the millions of people who die globally every single year, as a direct result of our careless lifestyle.
To compare the practice of abortion to the horrible suffering endured by the Jewish people during the Nazi holocaust is outrageous. Furthermore, you ignorantly imply that making abortion illegal will end the practice. Perhaps you suggest that back alley abortions are more humane? I'm not saying abortion is a positive practice, I’m saying it has been documented throughout history, and ignoring it does not make it go away.
If our American people were to truly wake up, we would quit living our lives of excess, and truly do as the Good Book intends. Follow the Ten Commandmants, and leave the judging up to God. Embrace technology, my closed-minded brother. It has enabled us to save more lives, in so many different ways, than abortion has taken away. And as a reality check, natural disasters happen when you cut down the rainforests, pollute the oceans, and melt away the polar ice caps. Alas, 'tis the American way, no?
May the people of our world come together despite our differences, live sustainably, lovingly and joyfully. Because bombing for peace is like fornicating in the name of virginity. God bless you all.

Editor,
I do not normally respond to letters in the paper, but one letter I could not ignore. It was the letter from the man claiming that "Disasters are punishment for abortion."
This letter hit me hard, with both a sense of anger and a sense of pity for someone who could honestly be so ignorant and closed-minded.
Mr. Mohs may want to do a little research before he claims that God is punishing us for allowing abortions, by causing natural disasters and economic hardship, when the truth of the matter is that it was our soon-to-be former president and his team of mass murderers who have led us into the mess we are facing. Thank God President-Elect Obama is planning to get us out of the "mass murder" that our current president has commanded.
I find it ironic that the writer mentioned the lives lost to Hitler. Well, how many lives have been needlessly lost to the war, all in the name of money?
As for abortion, I would like to ask Mr. Mohs two questions: first, how long has he been a woman, faced with the difficult life decisions that abortion imposes on a woman, and second, how many adopted children does he have? It is easy for us to point fingers at one another but the truth of the matter is this: we have laws in our country for a reason, and although I agree abortion is never ideal, it is in fact the decision of each woman, not of a man wanting to impose his own closed-minded beliefs. God gave us all the ability to make our own decisions and commands us to love one another, not judge!
God Bless this great country we live in, where are all allowed choice!
