The Marysville Parks, Culture and Recreation Department has worked with tennis coach Arnie Moreno for years now in order to organize tennis lessons for competitors of all ages.

This summer there are tennis lessons available for athletes from the young age of five, all the way up to players who are 17 years old. Classes range from $25-$40 and are held every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the summer.

The first class is called Little Lobbers for the 5-7 year old players. In this class they focus on the fundamentals such as grip, stance and footwork in order to build on those skills later on. Another major purpose of this beginning course is to develop a love for the game of tennis.

The second and third levels of classes are Youth Beginners and Youth Intermediate which include the age range of 8-17 year old players. These courses focus on developing the skills learned in the Little Lobbers. After learning the basics of the sport, the players begin to refine their skills and incorporate strategy into how they play the game.

"We try to provide a place where kids in this area can go as there aren't many options in terms of local clubs. I try to provide them the skills in order to compete at a high level, but also focus on having fun so that they might fall in love with tennis," said Coach Arnie Moreno.

Moreno has been coaching tennis for more than 35 years and has developed a long list of drills and games to help young athletes develop their skills on the court. He is currently Shorewood's varsity tennis coach for the boys and girls teams and has been their coach for the last 16 years. Aside from his years of experience teaching young players, he has also earned certifications through the Professional Tennis Registry.

If you want more information about the courses that can be found at the Marysville Parks and Rec website under All the information is in the Activities Guide.
