The YMCA of Snohomish County recently recognized volunteers from around the area that help support local YMCAs, including seven volunteers who help the Marysville YMCA.

YMCA officials honored the individuals as some of their 2017-2018 YMCA of Snohomish County Volunteers of the Year at a June 13 recognition breakfast.

"The YMCA would not be able to do what it does without the help of volunteers," said JJ Frank, executive director of the Marysville YMCA.

"We are a stronger place because of our volunteers," he said.

Three Marysville Getchell High School students were recognized for their contributions as youth volunteers.

Jerahmy and Roewyn Umayam have spent a lot of time helping kids at the local YMCA, said Frank.

"They have both volunteered more than 350 hours at our YMCA," he said.

The two are especially involved in helping kids at the YMCA learn Tae Kwan Do.

"They are definitely leaders and good role models for our younger kids," said Frank.

A recent Getchell graduate, Myles Redden, has attended the Marysville YMCA since he was in kindergarten as part of their youth childcare program, said Frank.

Redden spent a lot of time at the YMCA growing up, said Frank, and now helps mentor and tutor students at their teen youth development center.

"He is very passionate about photography," said Frank.

Local CPA accountant Steven Kukull was recognized for his help in policy matters at the Marysville YMCA, specifically with the finances at the location.

"He has helped make sure that we are always being fiscally responsible with our money," said Frank.

Kukull is a board member with the Marysville YMCA as well.

Two other board members for the location, Kim Kron and Chad Kvangnes, were honored for their work fundraising for Marysville YMCA programs.

"Kron helped us with our annual fundraising campaign," said Frank.

Frank said that Kron is a big supporter of the community, particularly for families that can't afford the YMCA costs normally.

Kvangnes also supports those who need financial support to attend the YMCA, said Frank.

"He is a big advocate for kids that cannot afford our services," he said.

Kvangnes also is a big supporter of the Marysville YMCA programs that support locals who live with disabilities, said Frank.

Local Geroge Zartuche is the final volunteer recognized, who was honored for his support of Marysville YMCA programs.

"George is a volunteer here with our health and mental wellness programs," said Frank. "He has taught a lot of classes here, particularly those where he connects with the seniors," he said.
