The Lakewood Cougar Mamas are getting ready for another season of Powder Puff football.

This season, Lakewood has scheduled their game against the Lake Stevens Valkyries on Friday, June 29, at 6 p.m. The matchup will be held at the Lakewood High School Stadium.

The Cougar Mamas will be coming together to raise money for the Lakewood Youth Football Athletic Association. The LYFAA works to make sure that every child has an opportunity to compete and play the sports they love, through scholarships in the football and cheerleading programs.

"It's been a new experience for me, but I think we are making strides every day. It's a lot of fun coaching adults, having them enjoy the game and see them progress so rapidly through the little time that I have with them. They're putting in so much work and they will play with everything they got," said Coach Tyson Steen.

This season the individual tickets will cost $5 and family tickets will be sold for $10. In addition to the game, both teams will also be running a raffle and other donation opportunities in order to raise the most money for the kids in the community.

Last season, Lakewood was able to raise over $6,000 for the LYFAA which turned into scholarships for a big group of young boys and girls to compete in football and cheer. This year the Cougar Mamas want to increase that total and make sure that every kid is able be a part of a team.

"Everyone thought I was crazy when I first joined up, but it has been so much fun doing something different and getting out here. It's hard to learn the game and the plays, but when it comes down to it we are giving back and having fun," said quarterback Kari Steeves.
