AHS track and field offers summer camp

With the school year ending and summer gearing up, Arlington High School Track and Field will debut their first-ever summer camp.

The camp will be a three-day experience from Thursday, July 12, to Saturday, July 14, from 3 – 5:30 p.m. at the Arlington High School Stadium. Everyone who is entering the fourth through the ninth grade can register for the camp with a $40 fee. The fee will include the three days of coaching along with a track and field T-shirt.

The money raised will be put back into the Track and Field program where it is needed, in order for the future success of the team.

The AHS Summer Camp will include a wide array of events including: running events, hurdles, high jump, long jump, triple jump, discus, javelin and shot put. On the last day of the camp there will be a mini-track meet so that the kids can practice competing after learning their technique.

“I think track and field separates itself from other sports because you aren’t just competing against others, but also competing against yourself every day. Some of these kids don’t like the team sports that are provided so this gives them an option where they can compete on a team, but focus on their own performance,” said Camp Coordinator and Booster Club spokesperson Angie Donnelson.

Besides the District Champion Arlington coaching staff, the camp will also provide coaching from varsity athletes across all events. A few of the athletes include team captain Noah Loftis, long distance races, Malia Mustajo, relays and sprints, and Isaac Donnelson, throwing events. This hands-on training from some of the best local athletes will help each hild take leaps and bounds in their athletic development.
