Marysville offers spring cleaning events

The popular Shred-A-Thon and Clean Sweep events are both taking place this year on Saturday, April 28, offering Marysville residents two great ways to do some spring cleaning.

Shred-A-Thon

The Shred-A-Thon is 9 a.m. to noon at Marysville City Hall, 1049 State Ave.

Bring up to six standard file-size boxes for free shredding. Marysville Sunrise Rotary will accept clean styrofoam for recycling. Marysville Arts & Tech High School will accept donations of old computers and electronic devices. For electronics they can accept computer towers, laptops, working flat screen monitors, cell phones, keyboards, mice, hard drives, tablets, e-readers, digital cameras and gaming consoles. Electronics that cannot be recycled are printers, broken flat screen monitors and CRT monitors.

Donations to Marysville Community Food Bank will be accepted. Thank you to additional event sponsors Home Street Bank, Marysville School District and the North County Outlook.

Clean Sweep

The Clean Sweep is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Marysville Public Works, 80 Columbia Ave.

City residents may clear out trash and recyclables for free. Bring these items:

•Garbage (must be bagged)

•Yard waste (no dirt, sod or rocks)

•Scrap metal

•Appliances

•First 50 refrigerators or freezers accepted for free (limit 1/household). After that, residents will be charged $35 disposal fee per appliance

•Washers, dryers, stoves & hot water tanks – no limit

•Clean wood (unpainted, untreated, no construction materials)

•Tires (clean, no wheels, no dirt or rocks)

•Car and marine batteries (lead-acid)

•Fluorescent light tubes and compact bulbs

•Electronics and e-waste

Please sort separately for donation:

•Clothing

nHousehold items (usable furniture, housewares, sports equipment, toys, etc.)

Do not bring:

•Household batteries

•LED and incandescent light bulbs

•Hazardous waste, including paint and household chemicals

This event is for City of Marysville residents only; proof of residency will be required (driver’s license, state ID or city utility bill). One personal vehicle load per household; no commercial vehicles. No business/commercial waste.

The event partners include Waste Management, Marysville Value Village, 3R Technology and Pacific Power Batteries.
