Strawberry Festival talent show accepting applications

Auditions for the Marysville Strawberry Festival Talent Show begin this May and the deadline to apply is on May 7.

The local talent shows gives people from all across the Puget Sound an opportunity to display their talent.

“Anybody is welcome, from all over,” said Marcy Giesler, director of the talent show.

Any kind of performance is welcome as long as it is appropriate for a young audience as well, said Giesler.

All ages are welcome, as well as solo and group performances.

Performers should come in the outfit they would plan to wear at the talent show.

“You should dress up like you would if you were actually performing in the talent show,” said Giesler.

The talent show typically brings in a lot of music-related performers.

“We get a lot of the dancers and the vocalists,” said Giesler.

“Usually we get a band or two, and some people bring instruments and sing their own song,” she said.

This year could include a banjo player.

“Which we’ve never had before, so I’m kind of excited about that,” said Giesler.

The auditions will be held May 10 and May 11 at the Marysville-Pilchuck High School auditorium at 5611 108th St. NE. They will be held 5:30-7:30 p.m.

The actual talent show is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on June 14 during the week of the Strawberry Festival.

“This is the 24th year I’ve been doing this and I keep at it because I really enjoy it,” said Giesler.

“The talent keeps coming back and every year they get better and better,” she said.

The performers like the chance to be recognized for their work.

“It gives them a chance to get out there and show their talent,” said Giesler, who said the performers like the recognition that it gives them.

Auditions are graded by two judges.

“We will go over those who participated and take the top 30,” said Giesler. “That is the limit I have for the show” due to time constraints.

In each category the top performer will receive a trophy, while second and third place will receive a ribbon.

The overall winner will win a gift basket and the opportunity to ride in the Marysville Strawberry Festival Grand Parade.
