Marysville resident Rosie Styron recently turned 90 years old and was celebrated on March 16 with a birthday party at the gym she still regularly attends.

The women who go to the Curves gym on downtown Third Street helped to throw Styron a party that day to celebrate her and her dedication to keeping a healthy body.

"We wanted to show her how much we appreciated her and how she inspires us to keep going so that when we get to 90 we can move like her," said Styron's friend and gym-goer Peggy Hyatt.

Many of Styron's friends described her as "inspirational."

"I mean look at her. She's 90 and she puts a lot of us to shame," said Dee Aley, another of Styron's friend and a regular at the Curves gym.

Styron said she tries to get down to the gym five times a week, and sometimes makes it six times in one week.

"It keeps her young, that's why she's still walking around," said Hyatt. "That keeps all of us coming back as well."

In fact, many of the regulars at the gym will check up on her if she misses a couple of days.

"If she doesn't come down, we call up and check on her, wondering if she's sick," said Hyatt, which happened recently.

"She had a cough a couple of weeks ago and we were all so worried because she didn't show up," she said.

In addition to looking up to her dedication to keeping her body healthy, many said they also enjoyed Styron's company.

Hyatt mainly knows her because they are both gym regulars.

"And she's so friendly and sweet that she inspires all of us and so we just love her," she said.

"I wish her a happy birthday and I'm so happy that I know her," she said.

Clarice Miner, one of Styron's friends and a gym-goer, said Styron is a really nice person.

"I love her. She brings light into your life and she always makes you happy," said Miner. "We all strive to be her."

Styron herself also enjoys many of her friends at the gym.

"I think these ladies are great," she said. "They're all close friends and I get lots of hugs. That's the best part."

She also appreciated the gym and her friends for coming together to celebrate her 90th birthday.

"This is great, they all turned out and they're all so pleasant and nice," she said.
