The Pacific Northwest farm and ranch supply store Coastal Farm and Ranch has opened its newest location in Marysville.

The business opened in the former K-Mart location in central Marysville at 9623 State Ave. and held their ribbon cutting and grand opening on Feb. 28.

Coastal offers a variety of farm and ranch supplies, in addition to a wide variety of equipment and clothes for the outdoors.

"A lot of people think of us for just farm and feed when they see a Coastal store, but a third of the store is fashion and workwear and boots," said Coastal's marketing director Joe Clemens. "The unique mix of merchandise is what makes us special."

They have a very large select of Carhartt products (an apparel company known for their work-quality clothes).

"We have one of the biggest Carhartt departments in the northwest," said Clemens. "We don't carry everything Carhartt offers, but it's pretty close."

In addition to clothes, Coastal has sections for sporting goods, fishing, lawn and garden, greenhouse equipment, and hearth and home.

"Our stoves and fireplaces are actually working so you can see how they would look in your home," said Clemens.

Coastal offers a variety of pet food as well.

"We have a lot of higher-end pet foods because a lot of people take good care of their pets these days," he said.

Coastal owner Buzz Wheeler said that their departments are staffed with experts in their field as well.

In Marysville's Coastal animal health department is an employee who raises horses, for example, he said.

"We've got experts in every area," said Wheeler. "We try to do that in every one of our departments."

Wheeler said that the company has been trying to get a store into Marysville for a long time.

"We've had our eye on your town for quite a while," he said.

Coastal is headquartered in Albany, Ore. They have 17 stores in total, all in Washington state or Oregon.

Clemens said the store, which opened earlier this year, has had a strong start.

"We're excited to be a part of Marysville. To be honest, this store has started off fast and we've had customers since day one ... it's a great community to be a part of," he said.

Marysville Mayor Jon Nehring said he was excited for the continuing growth in the city.

"It's what is so fantastic about Marysville right now, with new businesses coming in and just a growing and vibrant city," he said.

Wheeler said that they try to support the community as well.

"Part of our culture is giving back and making sure that we support the things that are important," he said.

Wheeler presented a $2,000 check to the Stanwood no-kill animal shelter the NOAH Center at the ribbon cutting.

"We're a very pet-friendly store and we encourage you to bring your pets in," he said.

They also presented a $1,500 check to the Marysville Community Food Bank and said that their stores always make an effort around Christmas-time to raise funds for local food banks.

"I wish someday we wouldn't have to have food banks, but as long as we're here we will support them," said Wheeler.
