Two Lakewood teachers were recognized at the Feb. 21, Lakewood School Board meeting for receiving their National Board Certification. National Board Certification is an advanced teaching credential. These teachers are Lakewood Middle School teacher Jay Carlson and Lakewood Elementary School teacher Ashley Bailey.

National Board Standards and National Board Certification gives teachers and schools the tools to define and measure teaching excellence. Similar to certification in fields like Medicine, National Board Certification is a rigorous, peer-reviewed process that ensures that Board-certified teachers have proven skills to advance student achievement. As part of the National Board Certification process, teachers must analyze their teaching context and students' needs, submit videos of their teaching, and provide student work samples that demonstrate growth and achievement.

These two teachers join the other Lakewood teachers who have all earned this advanced certification including Elizabeth Davis, Mike Fellows, Raj Kaur, Risa Livingston, Jon Nauert, Kristine Sorensen, Jeff Sowards and Liza Yarnell.
