Eleanor "Ellie" Carstens

Eleanor "Ellie" Carstens died January 27, 2018 in Arlington, Washington. She was born on May 16, 1926, inn Spokane, Washington to Virgil and Hazel Heald and attended Spokane schools graduating from Lewis and Clark High School. She attended Washington State College and was a member of Chi Omega Sorority where she met her future husband Vern. They were married in 1946 and moved to the family farm in Reardan, Washington, where they continued farming for the next 40 years. They were both avid WSU supporters. Ellie continued to visit the campus frequently, serving for over 40 years as treasurer of the housing corporation of Chi Omega Sorority. For over 50 years Ellie and Vern spent their winter months at the second home on Kauai, Hawaii, where they enjoyed playing golf and socializing with friends. They retired from farming in 1986 and they spent time golfing and traveling throughout the western United States. After Vern's death in 2004, Ellie continued to visit Kauai every year and made her final trip in honor of her 90th birthday. She was a member of the Reardan Presbyterian Church and an active and involved member of the Reardan Ladies Lions. She was also a member of the Harrington Golf Club and the Sundance Golf Club. Ellie was an active member in the Reardan Community, and they both were honored to be Citizens of the Year. She was preceded in death by her daughter Jane and is survived by her son, Lee, of Groveland, California(Tim Lancaster) and her daughter Kay Dusking of Arlington (David); two grandsons Bryce (Heidi) and Brady Dusking, and three great-grandchildren Emily, Eric and Blake. At her request, no services will be held.
