M-P girls prepare for upcoming season

After a rough season last year, the Marysville-Pilchuck girls basketball team is looking to rebuild and grow this season.

Last season the Tomahawks experienced a lot of change as they came into the season with a young team and a completely new coaching staff. With so much change, they never managed to find their footing, as they went 0-11 in league and 0-19 overall.

"We have girls that are showing up who are willing to learn and grow. We don't have a lot of experience but they are happy to be in the gym and that makes our job a lot easier. Bottom line is we want to work on things that they aren't comfortable with so that they are ready for five-on-five," said Marysville-Pilchuck Head Coach Taylor Stevens.

During the offseason the Tomahawks lost a big portion of their varsity roster due to other sports, and currently do not have any seniors suiting up for them. They will be led by the only two returning varsity players, Hanna Koehn and Mackenzie Konsor. With limited experience, the Tomahawks will look to this duo in order to get up to speed as the season begins.

Miriah Summers and Georgia Bradley are going to be huge for Marysville-Pilchuck's success as they will be the primary frontcourt players. Summers played most of last year in junior varsity but got her opportunity late in the season to earn some varsity minutes. Bradley is one of the strongest players on the team, and will be key for rebounding as she stands at nearly six feet tall.

"I'm lucky to be able to be here and help this program grow one step at a time," said Coach Stevens.

If you want to come out and support the Tomahawks they will be hosting their first home game against the Sehome Mariners on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at 7:15 p.m.
