Nine members of the Marysville Fire District were honored Nov. 15 for their actions to help save a woman’s life following a car crash.

Receiving the Chief’s Excellence Award were:

Mirco Piazzi, Medical Services Officer

Ian Barrett, Firefighter/Paramedic

Keith Taylor, Battalion Chief

Matthew Campbell, Captain

Jeff Tucker, Captain

Ryan Hopp, Firefighter

Shayne Pierce, Firefighter

Brenden Hancock, Firefighter

Sidney Monroe, Firefighter

These nine Marysville Fire District members responded to a two-vehicle crash on I-5 the evening of Feb. 10, 2017. They worked to quickly rescue an unconscious and seriously injured woman from one of the vehicles, stabilize her and transport her within minutes to Providence Hospital.

Due to their quick action, this patient recovered and was able to thank these firefighters in person on Nov. 15.

“We are extremely proud of the work these firefighters did, not unlike the work they do every single day,” Chief Martin McFalls said. “Our firefighters train constantly to be able to perform life-saving measures in moments like this.”

Marysville Fire District responded to more than 1,000 motor vehicle crashes in 2016. MFD firefighters commit dozens of hours each year to train for a variety of crash scenarios.
