Lakewood's Cama Much outruns the Tiger defenders at Lakewood High School on Oct. 12.

The Lakewood girls soccer team matched up with the Burlington-Edison Tigers in a back-and-forth game on Oct. 12.

Both teams came out with a lot of energy as they each had multiple shots on goal but weren't consistent enough to turn those into points. In the first half neither team could score as the defenses would not allow a clear shot.

The second half was a completely different story as the Cougars scored the first goal from about 15 yards out, in the 50th minute. After this first score the Tigers answered back in the 53rd minute and then again six minutes later. Over the next 10 minutes it looked like Burlington-Edison was going to squeak by with the win, until Lakewood struck once again in the 71st minute.

In the end the Cougars managed to secure the tie with a final score of 2-2.

Cougars' Jaylene Priebe-Garcia finds open space as she pushes the ball upfield at Lakewood High School on Oct. 12.

"We're playing great soccer. We're playing competitive and there's a belief in this locker room that hasn't been felt at Lakewood girls soccer in a long time. They are starting to own their future and we are really hungry for Districts," said Lakewood Head Coach Nick Anderson.

Sophomore forward, Riley Christiansen fired from all over the field for the Cougars. Christiansen was responsible for both goals as she scored her first from 15 yards out and the second from about 10 yards. Iliana Ramirez, freshman forward, also contributed as she assisted on the tying goal for Lakewood.

On the defensive side, senior Cassidy Machovina led the Cougars for a solid effort against one of the top teams in the division. The first half shutout allowed them to keep the game close and the eventual end in the tie.

If you want to come out and support the Lakewood Cougars, their next home game will be against the Ferndale Golden Eagles on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 6 p.m.
