Grace Academy's Blaire Hess, center left, and Chase Zachry, center right, go on the offensive as they take the ball from the Wolverines at Strawberry Fields on Oct. 6.

The Grace Academy soccer team welcomed the Friday Harbor Wolverines to their home field on Oct. 6.

Earlier in the season the Eagles lost to Friday Harbor by a score of 3-0, but this time around they fought for a different outcome. Throughout the first half, both teams pushed hard on defense and neither allowed a score.

As the second half started up, the result seemed to be the same as neither team could find the back of the net. However, Grace Academy struck in the 65th minute with a goal up the middle from about 10 yards out. The Eagles' defense held up the rest of the way and the Eagles walked away with the 1-0 victory over the Wolverines.

"The last time we played them they just passed all around us and we were just standing and watching the ball. So, this game we focused on pressuring the ball, the guys off the ball and the passes up field, which frustrated them all over the field. It let us get into a good position for our goal, and then the defense finished it off for us," said Grace Academy Head Coach Mark Ruhlman.

Grace Academy's Megan Gardner was an offensive threat all game as she kept the pressure on Friday Harbor's defense. Gardner finally got her shot off with the only goal of the night, as she was assisted by Tien Nguyen.

On the defensive end the Eagles were led by seniors, Colby Christison and Josiah Tuohimaa. Christison kept a lot of pressure off the goalkeeper in some big moments as the leader on the defense. Tuohimaa played excellent at the keeper spot as he recorded a shutout, as well as double digit saves.

If you want to support the Grace Academy Eagles, their next home game will be against the Providence Classical Christian Highlanders on Oct. 12, at 3:30 p.m., at Strawberry Fields Athletic Complex.
