Tournament coordinators, Rob Jones, right, and Craig Christie, left, talk to the participants moments before the start of the tournament at Gleneagle Golf Course on Sept. 7.

The eighth annual Pink the Rink Golf Tournament teed off at Gleneagle golf course on Sept. 7.

The tournament raises money for the Providence Hospital Breast Center which contributes to breast cancer treatment as well general health. This year has been the best year of funding so far, as they expect to hit over $30,000 with the support of the Safeway Foundation, Fred Meyer, Coke, Pepsi, Crown Distributing, Columbia Distributing, the Everett Silvertips and other great organizations.

"It's been overwhelming how much support we've had this year. From electricians to plumbers to the asphalt guys, everyone wants to be involved because they know it is such a great cause," said tournament coordinator Rob Jones.

The tournament works with the Everett Silvertips as they gear up for their ninth annual Pink the Rink game. On Nov. 4, the Silvertips are facing off against the Portland Winterhawks in a game that will contribute funds toward the Breast Center with every ticket sold.

Alex Branch tees off on the second hole at Gleneagle Golf Course on Sept. 7.

By the end of the game, all of the events and store donations to the fund, should reach around $100,000 for the foundation. This money will help fund mammograms, disease prevention, and breast cancer care for patients who need help here in Snohomish County.

"Our goal is simple. When a woman is faced with a difficult situation, we want to make sure that they can go through that without being afraid. The biggest thing that we can do is to get them to the Breast Center. They do an amazing job and they lay out the plan for treatment care in an incredible way," said Jones.

If you want to make a donation to help support the cause you can find the foundation online at http://washington.providence.org/donate/, under Providence General Foundation - Everett, or go to your local Safeway and Albertsons to donate there.
