Shooting in M'ville results in homicide, suspect arrested

Marysville police responded to a shooting in the 4500 block of 73rd Place NE, contacted a 59-year-old male, and took him into custody without incident for murder in the second degree and assault in the first degree.

Shortly after 5 p.m.,on June 11, Marysville officers responded to the 500 block of State Avenue on a report of a male brandishing a firearm. Patrol officers learned that two individuals, who had just gotten off a Community Transit bus, exchanged words when one of them pulled a handgun and brandished it. A search of the area by officers, including a K9 track, was unsuccessful in locating the suspect. Less than 10 minutes after that search, Marysville police began receiving calls of a shooting in the 4500 block of 73rd Place NE, about 12 blocks to the northeast of the original brandishing call.

When officers arrived on 73rd Place NE, they contacted a 59-year-old male who was sitting on the curb. A handgun was recovered nearby. That suspect was taken into custody without incident. A 59-year-old male victim was deceased in a nearby yard. While the cause of death is still under investigation, the male victim, who lived on 73rd Place NE, suffered from multiple gunshot wounds.

Marysville officers have confirmed that the suspect in the original brandishing of the firearm call, (in the 500 block of State Avenue), is the same suspect in the shooting, but the victim of the brandishing is not involved in the shooting, and was not near the shooting location.

The suspect will be booked into the Snohomish County Jail on one count of murder in the second degree, and one count of assault in the first degree. Any potential additional charges are part of the ongoing investigation.
