Lakewood's new Fitness Evolution gym will provide a convenient location for locals to workout and held its ribbon cutting on March 29.

The new facility opened on March 20, at 2517 172nd Street NE in Marysville, in the Lakewood area.

The new business has a number of different exercise equipment pieces, including weights, treadmills, dumbbells and other standard gym equipment.

"We are a full-service facility," said Elizabeth Mehlbrech, general manager of the Marysville Fitness Evolution.

"As we grow and take recommendations from members, we're adding value. We had a few members saying 'we want this kind of equipment' and we're going to talk to the ownership group and add those pieces," she said.

There is also a number of group classes available at the gym, including classes for step, yoga, Zumba, core and conditioning, kickboxing and cardio, said Mehlbrech.

"Instructions do start from the basics and make everyone feel comfortable," at many classes, she said.

There are also personal trainers available as a separate expense at the gym, said Mehlbrech.

Trainers are for someone looking to make a "whole lifestyle change," she said.

"You get that personal accountability and they understand nutrition. It's not just a one-hour training session," she said. "They find out about their client's health and nutrition, and they make adjustments."

There are two basic types of membership available at the gym, said Mehlbrech.

There is also a Kids Club membership, that allows parents a place to drop off their kids for a bit to get in a workout.

"This is an activity-based membership for kids," said Mehlbrech. "Staff will take care of them while the parents are out on the floor doing their workout," she said, "so the parents can take a break, decompress and workout."

Mehlbrech hopes that the gym can provide a place that is friendly and clean for the Lakewood area.

"Gyms can be intimidating, so by walking in and getting that friendly smile, that's what's really comforting," she said.

Ensuring a clean environment is also important for the gym as well, she said.

"Not only our staff being responsible for cleaning throughout the day, but we also hire professionals to come deep clean because cleanliness is important for our environment here," she said.

The location also serves the rapidly growing Lakewood area.

"Everything has developed so quickly in this area, and it's not just commercial but residential with the houses and apartments around here," said Mehlbrech.

"Just to have that convenient location where they don't have to go up over the viaduct to Smokey Point, people appreciate that," she said.

Fitness Evolution is open Monday through Thursday from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Mehlbrech said they look forward to serving the community.

"Anything people want to share about their experience, whether positive or construction criticism, is welcome because our main thing is we want to be part of this community and offering a healthy lifestyle for its members," she said.
