ARC plans March 18 Shamrock and Roll run

The Shamrock and Roll, a new St. Patrick’s themed run in Arlington will be hosted by the Arlington Runners Club on March 18 this year.

The 5k/10k run begins south of the Arlington Airport offices near Airport Trail. Registration begins at 9 a.m.

“It will be a whole lot of people dressed in green and continued fun at Skookum [Brewery],” said Devin Brossard, president of the Arlington Runners Club.

Those age 21 or over get a free drink at the local Skookum Brewery after the race.

“Even those who don’t want to drink, it’s good to have that social environment afterward,” said Brossard.

All of the club’s events help fundraise for local nonprofits, and some of the proceeds of this event are going to help Eagle Wings disAbility Ministry, a nonprofit organization that helps people who live with disabilities.

“We typically do a run each year for Eagle Wings,” said Brossard.

“They are a great local organization,” he said. “They provide a lot of services for adults and young people with disabilities.”

The club hoped to ramp up their efforts for the local organization with a new run this year.

The idea for the run started because themed runs help draw people in and “people tend to have a little more fun,” said Brossard.

The run is also meant to “provide good family friendly fun that helps bring people outside,” he said.

That goes back to the club’s mission to encourage people to get outside and moving, he said.

“It gives them a good reason to start training. The fall and winter time can be a little more tricky to train for, so giving a goal to train for is helpful,” he said.

The race is also meant to provide something local for people who like to run.

T-shirts and medals will also be available for participants.

Day-of registration is available, but Brossard encourages people to register before the event as it is less expensive and helps the club prepare.
