ARC hosts Turkey Trot

If you’re looking for a fun way to shed the guilt of Thanksgiving Day, the Arlington Runners Club has the answer for you.

On Thanksgiving morning, at 9 a.m., the ARC is hosting the Turkey Trot-5K. The course is a mix of trails, roads and gravel that starts in the Arlington Grocery Outlet parking lot.

“Thanksgiving is one of those holidays where you perpetually stuff yourself and then you have the associated guilt with doing that. But, when you get up in the morning and you get out and get some exercise it just makes the whole day more enjoyable. It makes you feel like you’ve earned it,” said the Arlington Runners Club Director, Devin Brossard.

Registration starts at 8 a.m., followed by a 30-minute Zumba pre-race warm up. All ages are welcome to enjoy the event from start to finish, in fact, all children aged 11 and under, who are accompanied by an adult, can run for free. The registration cost is $35 dollars for the day of the race.

After the race is complete there will be pumpkin pie prizes handed out to the winner of each age bracket, as well as refreshments, race shirts and music.

“It gives people an opportunity to come together on Thanksgiving and raise some money in order to put it back into the community. This event is also serving as a remembrance for all the tragedies that have happened recently with the drowning in the Stillaguamish River and the shootings up in Burlington. We just want to bring people together, especially for the people that may not have family of their own to spend the holiday with,” said Brossard.

If you’re looking on starting a new tradition for yourself, or your family, you can check out all the information at http://www.arlingtonrunnersclub.org or at the Arlington Runners Club facebook page. They are also hosting the Hot Cocoa Run on Dec. 10; all information can be found on their website if you are interested to try something new.
