Lakewood School District on lockdown, schools closed

The Lakewood School District is on lockdown and school has been cancelled on Oct. 12 due to a threat received by a Lakewood Middle School student that someone "was going to shoot up the middle school."

Lakewood School District website: states: This morning, we put the Lakewood School District in lockdown as a precautionary measure due to a threat that a LMS student received to “stay home because someone was going to shoot up the middle school.” In response to this threat, we are cancelling school today October 12, 2016. Law enforcement is on site and looking into this threat. We have sent a message to all of our bus drivers to return students home, and will be going to the bus routes that were not picked up yet to tell students to return home.

If you transport your students to school, please keep them home today. If your students are already at school, please know that they are with staff in a safe location. Once law enforcement tells us it is safe to do so, we will be contacting the families of all students on campus to inform you of the best time and location to pick up your students.

Again, this lockdown is a precaution and at this time no students or staff are in immediate danger.

We will keep you informed as we learn more information.

Additional information will be posted as it is received.
