Marysville Goodwill offers workshops

The Marysville Goodwill Job Training & Education Center is offering a variety of Job Readiness and Life Skills workshops in the coming weeks.

The Job Readiness workshops will cover such topics as Dressing For An Interview, CPR Certification, Finding the Right Job For You and Resume Essentials while the Life Skills workshops will cover Banking, Budgeting, Credit and Healthy Living.

“People can pick and choose which ones they would like to attend or they can attend them all,” said Tania Siler, manager, Marysville Job Training & Education Center at Goodwill. She added that people can register by calling 360-657-4058, or they can walk in on the day of the event.

Siler said that all of the workshops are free, with the exception of the CPR Certification workshop which has a cost of $30. She added that those who attend the Dressing For An Interview workshop will receive a free $25 Goodwill gift voucher for clothing and accessories for interviewing.

In addition to the Job Readiness and Life Skills workshops, the Marysville Goodwill’s Job Training & Education Center offers a daily open lab to assist community members.

“We have an open lab every afternoon from 2-4 p.m. to help people with making a resume, applying for a job online, making a cover letter, interviewing practice, keyboarding, and more,” said Siler. She added that the job application process has changed from the past when people could walk into a business and fill out an application. “Now they have to go online and people without the computer skills necessary are having a hard time finding a job because everything is digital. So our goal is to give them the skills they need to be successful,” she said.

“The workshops and open lab are for everyone,” said Siler. “The only restriction Goodwill has about who we will help is that they have a barrier to employment. So, if it is English as a second language, that’s a barrier, or if they haven’t worked for a while, say they have been a stay-at-home mom, that’s a barrier. It’s not about income, it’s about that barrier.”

The Marysville Goodwill Job Training & Education Center is located at 9315 State Ave., in Marysville. To register for the workshops, or for more information, call 360-657-4058.
