Help save our Festival

In support and response to Ms. Deckard’s Letter to the Editor in the Aug. 10 North County Outlook. Eight-five years ago the Marysville Strawberry Festival began as a small hometown event, becoming Snohomish County's largest parade/festival and the 3rd largest in the state, drawing over 100,000 visitors from all over the country to attend our festival and boost our local economy. Under existing leadership of Marysville Strawberry Festival we are in danger of losing our premier festival and summertime event that many families look forward to each year.

Election time is here for Maryfest Inc. By-laws that were written, voted on by members and filed with the state are being changed to fit the needs of those who want to run the festival. This should not occur. A concern is that some of the current leadership are not even Marysville residents. Do they care about our festival or do they have another agenda? Having been a past Board Member I seriously doubt this. Another concern is how are local and community donations being used? In the past six months 13 Board members resigned due to the current leadership. This shows there is something wrong with the Marysville Strawberry Festival.

A public meeting is being held on Tuesday, Aug.16 at 6 p.m. at 1259 State Ave. I urge the community and anyone interested in bringing fun and excitement back to the Marysville Strawberry Festival to attend. Help save our Festival.
