Rants and Raves 5/27/15

RAVE: A big rave to those people who dedicated the Marysville Cemetery for Memorial Day. It looked wonderful. Very patriotic. Thanks for taking your time to honor those who served. Totally awesome sight — gave me chills.

RAVE: Thank you to all those who organized, participated in and attended the wonderful Memorial Day events in Arlington and Marysville. We should never forget those who died in service to our country.

RANT: The 30-day Special Session of the state legislature is set to end this week and our elected officials still haven’t approved a budget. Gov. Jay Inslee has said that he will immediately call lawmakers back into a second Special Session if they don’t pass a budget by the end of the first Special Session. Our elected officials really need to get their act together and pass a budget now.

RAVE: Thanks to the Arlington Police who, in the process of arresting a local man, recovered stolen police equipment including a Seattle Police Department badge, guns, ammunition, a police issued bulletproof vest, drug scales and drug packaging materials.

RANT: It’s getting tiresome how recent American riots are overshadowing the effects that actually spurred them on. The conversation should start at how yet another black man has died by the hands of the police, but the conversation always seems to focus on violent rioters and burned vehicles instead, and the peaceful protests always seem to get third billing. I don’t condone the violence of the riots, but it seems like that violence always drown out the conversation when there’s an important systemic police issue that gets left as a sidenote.

RAVE: Thanks to the Rotary Club of Marysville for handing out more than $98,000 in scholarships to 42 local students recently. It’s just another example of how the members of Rotary are helping our community.
