Lakewood wrestlers fall to Cedarcrest

Lakewood head coach Tom O'Hara shouts support to his team from the sideline last Thursday against the Red Wolves. The Cougars lost to Cedarcrest by a score of 53-24.

The Lakewood wrestling team struggled against Cascade Conference rivals Cedarcrest last week, falling by a final score of 53-24.

The Cougars managed just four weight class victories, three of which came through Red Wolves forfeits. The young Lakewood squad's dual meet record drops to 1-3 with the loss, heading into Jan. 14's battle at home against Concrete, Darrington and La Conner.

Lakewood's Austin Hudson, a junior, was one of the few bright spots for the team last Thursday against Cedarcrest. Wrestling in the 160-lb weight class, Hudson quickly dispatched his Red Wolf opponent and won by pin in under a minute.

In junior varsity action, Lakewood's Camden Bach (freshman, 152-lb) and Shane Dawson (sophomore, 160-lb) also won by pinning their Cedarcrest opponents.

The Cougars' varsity roster is full of both inexperience and potential. Four juniors are in the rotation, a couple of whom are without much varsity wrestling experience. Four freshmen join the group, giving the Cougars a future to be excited about. No seniors wrestled varsity on Thursday night.

Coming up, Lakewood will be at home the evenings of Jan. 14 for a Double Dual and on Jan. 15 for a match against Archbishop Murphy.
