HS baseball in full swing

It's peanuts and cracker jacks time for Arlington High School.

The Eagles kicked off their nearly two-month long baseball season last weekend by hosting a small jamboree with Stanwood and Lakewood. Even though the sun refused to poke through the clouds, it was the first organized baseball of the season for the three teams.

Arlington is coming off a 7-11 regular season record last year, and two lopsided losses in the district tournament. Senior Ryan Walker, who signed a letter of intent with Washington State University a few months ago, returns to the team and is poised to once again be one of the Wesco League's better pitchers and infielders.

Also returning to the squad are seniors Josh Schempp and Tristan Jager.

Arlington's season is already in full swing, with home games against Marysville Getchell and Oak Harbor earlier this week. The Eagles will host Stanwood on Friday at 4 p.m., and will spend next week on the road.

Lakewood is without infielder Alex Keen this season, but will lean heavily on seniors Brandon Stott, Adam Oppliger, and Andrew Bean. The Cougars hosted Anacortes last night and will visit Cedarcrest this afternoon. They host Cedarcrest on Friday at Lakewood High School at 4 p.m.
