Education summit set for Marysville

Dream Big for Kids is a full day of interaction, planned for March 29.

On Saturday, March 29, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Marysville school board and district leaders will host a public summit on education titled "Dream Big for Kids" at the Marysville Getchell High School Campus Commons, located at 8301-84th St. NE, Marysville.

For more than a year, the Marysville School District Board of Directors has been focused on an initiative to increase community involvement, reaching out to parents, students, business and civic leaders and the community at large to improve educational opportunities for students.

The process began with a number of community forums that helped identify the successes of the district and the areas where improvement was needed. The information gathered was used to determine the skills that were needed in a new superintendent following Dr. Larry Nyland's retirement.

Since the successful hiring of Dr. Becky Berg as superintendent, she has continued community outreach work – meetings with parents, staff, community members and a series of "Coffee and Conversations" with families in our community.

The board now invites Marysville and Tulalip community members, business leaders, parents, students and school district staff to participate in an educational summit to help envision the future of the district for local kids.

There is no cost for attendance, but space is limited and pre-registration is required. To register or for more information, call the Marysville School District at (360) 653-7058 or visit the website at http://www.msvl.k12.wa.us.
