Local Marysville solar panel manufacturer Silicon Energy recently won the Global Cleantech Cluster Association's (GCCA) Best in Solar and Wind 2013 Later Stage Award.

"It is a great honor to win GCCA's Best in Solar and Wind award," said Gary Shaver, Silicon Energy president in a press release. "Silicon Energy is focused on bringing innovative PV [photovoltaic modules a.k.a. solar panels] products and solutions that combine beauty and functionality. GCCA's recognition further emboldens us to continue innovating beyond the present commodity-focused state of the PV industry and look to a future where PV is a more attractive and functional part of our built environment."

Silicon Energy won for having the "highest quality and most durable photovoltaic (PV) modules on the market today, backed by one of the best warranties in the world," according to the GCCA's website.

The GCCA is an international group of cleantech clusters (financial investment groups that specialize in green technology) that work to advise on the best environmentally sound technology.

The Later Stage Awards were selected by 22 venture capital investors and entrepreneurs who collectively manage more than $3.5 billion in green technology investment, according to a Silicon Energy press release.

Ten winners were chosen from more than 10,000 nominees in categories like 'Best in BioFuels/BioEnergy,' 'Best in Green Buildings,' and 'Best in Lighting/Energy Efficiency.' Winners came from all around the world, including Finland, Sweden and San Diego.

Silicon Energy was formed in 2007 and created its double-glass, open-frame design to make one of the most durable panels available, according to the company's website.
