On Friday, April 20, more than 1,500 Arlington High School students took part in a unique video contest, competing against schools in Everett, Mount Vernon, Sedro-Woolley and Anacortes, and the whole thing was finished in under an hour.
The Lip Dub contest, in which the final product must be a single continuous shot taking place on school grounds, was sponsored by Anacortes High School. Judging took place April 25, but even before the official scoring, the Arlington video was a hit.
Video adviser Erik Heinz noted that the students' video, performed to Beyonce's hit "Crazy in Love," had gotten 20,000 YouTube hits just over the first weekend it was available for viewing.
Only ten students had "solo" roles in the video, lip-synching to various parts of the pop song, but the background performers still managed to shine. From crazy costumes to funky dance moves and acrobatics, the Arlington students managed to make every frame of the video fun and interesting.
The
AHS Lip Dub video came in second in the Audience Awards and won third place in the Judges' Awards.
