Tennis head coach Nate McClellen is happy with the success his women's team has had this season. Currently in third place in the Wesco 4A North division, with the potential to finish even better if they can pull out a couple more wins before the end of the regular season, Coach McClellen is looking to help his team be competitive in the post-season.

Senior Sarah Tuemmler is the team's number one singles player and, following a successful season last year, is hoping to take it a step further in her final year and make it to State.

"She would really like to clinch a State appearance this year, and she is a tough competitor," said McClellen. "She knows who she has to face and what she needs to do to get it done. It's her senior year, so it is now or never."

In the doubles, seniors RaeAnn Bobadilla and Alicia Brown also did well last year, and now that they have been playing all year together, they have some big hopes for their post-season run.

McClellen is excited about their chances. "They have already faced some tough competition so far, so they know what they are up against. I am hoping that their success last year will carry them far in the tournament this time around."

The team as a whole can earn points with first through third finishes, but the coach will have to make some tough decisions between scoring as a team and his players' individual desires.

"I am one of those coaches that wants it to be fun for them, so even if I feel we might score better as a team with certain girls playing in doubles, I also understand that they might want to compete as singles, so those girls will be involved in that decision," he explained.

The post season is set up so that each team from Wesco 4A North division will send six players, two singles and two doubles. From there, qualifiers who place in the top four in doubles and singles will take on the qualifiers from the Wesco 4A South division. The top two teams in both singles and doubles will then head to the state tournament, with the third place finishers taking on KingCo's third place for the final state invites.

The district tournament is set to begin May 8 at Arlington High School.
