In his tenth season as the head coach for the Arlington Eagles track and field teams, Judd Hunter has never been more confident in both the girls' and boys' teams to trophy at the State meet than he is this season. The fact that both teams are moving into district competitions with undefeated records has been a pleasant surprise.

"This is a really fun team to be a part of right now," said Coach Hunter. "Whatever these kids are asked to do for the team, to score and win, they're all over it. They are really buying in to it all."

"I fully expect both the boys and girls to come away with district titles," he continued. "I also believe the boys' team has a great chance to win at regionals."

Coach Hunter also believes the girls have a great chance to place at regionals as well, although the lack of depth in their sprinters may be of some concern.

"The girls' team has had some depth issues on the track, but the field athletes have been really pulling their weight and putting up big numbers for us," said Coach Hunter.

Senior captains Alexis Sarver and Teresa Wadey have provided both big points and strong leadership, and combined with the younger talent of freshman Jessica Ludwig and sophomore Lindsey Leatherman, the Lady Eagles are looking to win the district meet as well. Sarver will be a favorite at State this year in the discus and is currently ranked number one. One of the big surprises of the year has been freshman jumper Jessica Ludwig, who currently is the second highest scorer on the team this season. Leatherman is currently ranked number 2 in the state in the javelin.

The boys' team brought back some good talent back from last season, including senior co-captains Andrew Bosket and Blake McPherson, who, according to Coach Hunter, "have really been doing awesome and have scored a considerable amount of points for us this season."

McPherson is expected to compete in four events at the State meet, his best being the javelin, but is also currently ranked fifth in the state in the 300-meter hurdles. Also in the 300-meter hurdles is sophomore Jared Alskog, who is ranked third in the state. Junior Dan Boyden has been a key point scorer in the discus and shot put, and will have a solid opportunity to place at State. On top of that, the team hopes their 4 x 100 relay will be able to place at the State meet as well.

"You don't get to State and have goals to trophy as a team if you don't have some top point scorers competing," said Coach Hunter.
