The Marysville Premier wrestling tourney took place Saturday, Jan. 14, at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, and although Moses Lake came out on top overall, a couple of local wrestlers had an outstanding showing.

Killian Page Marysville-Pilchuck freshman Killian Page won the 132 weight class in dramatic fashion. Down 8-1 midway through the second round, Page used skill and technique to make a dramatic comeback. His aggressive attacks in the third round led to a string of take downs and near falls, including a three-point near fall in the final seconds of the match. This timely scoring pushed Page into the lead just as the referee's whistle blew, with a final score of 14-13.

"It is pretty amazing to see a freshman win a tournament like this one," said Tomahawk head coach Graig Ivarsen. "It means a lot for him to take the win today."

"This win felt pretty awesome," Page said. "I noticed he was tired, and I knew I had to just keep moving." Page won four straight matches at the tournament.

Alfredo Diaz Marysville Getchell also boasted a champ that day, in the big 285 weight class. Junior Alfredo Diaz physically dominated the championship match, winning 4-0. Diaz, who wrestled for Marysville-Pilchuck last year, is happy to be wrestling for the Chargers.

"I had a fun time wrestling for Marysville-Pilchuck, but I made the decision to wrestle for Marysville Getchell this year to help them become a wrestling school," said Diaz.

To get to the championship match, Diaz had to win three previous matches.

"I felt I had the energy to win, and I left all that energy out on the mat," Diaz said, barely catching his breath.

"We call him the 'Gentle Giant,' a name we are trying to break," said Charger head coach Todd Freeman. "Once he gets some fire under him, it is like trying to stop a juggernaut."
