The two students chosen for recognition by the Marysville Soroptimist and Kiwanis Clubs for December are both seniors in the Bio-Med Academy at Marysville Getchell High School's campus.

Katherine LaRosa's cumulative GPA just nudges the 4.0 mark, at 3.966 over her four-year high school career. She has taken full advantage of the Bio-Med Academy's science-based curriculum, with classes in Sports Medicine, Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, along with honors physics, language arts and advanced leadership courses. She is a member of the Bio-Tech Club, the National Honor Society, the Sports Medicine Club, and chairs the committees for the MGHS Prom and Senior Holiday Night.

A student athlete as well as a scholar, Katherine is captain of the MGHS varsity volleyball team, and also serves as the Bio-Med senior class representative and its co-president.

Katherine's community involvement includes volunteer service for the Marysville Co-Op Outdoor Education Program, the Marysville Community Food Bank Toy Store, Mountain View Presbyterian Church Vacation Bible School, and the Providence Foundation's Festival of Trees.

Joshua Estella, with a 3.5 GPA and a 1650 score on the SATs, is also a student achiever. He received a Certificate of Excellence from the Bio-Med Academy last year, and was selected Bio-Med Student of the Quarter.

As captain of the boys' Swim and Dive team and a member of the Mighty Marlins Swim Club, Joshua also likes to attend other teams' home sporting events. He is also a member of the NJROTC and the National Honor Society, and participates in the "You Gotta Love This Place" school effort.

Other accomplishments include serving as Bio-Med vice president, junior class president, and participating in leadership class.
