Later this month, the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) executive board is expected to approve a realignment of the Wesco League for next school year.

Currently, the 4A classification consists of a North and South division, while the 3A classification has only one. The realignment comes because of the reclassification of some schools and the addition of Mount Vernon into the Wesco League. The result will be eleven 4A schools and ten 3A schools, with both classifications divided into North and South divisions.

4A schools Marysville-Pilchuck and Stanwood will be moving to a 3A classification while 3A Lynnwood will bump up to 4A.

Perhaps the most exciting result of this realignment is the fact that Marysville-Pilchuck and Marysville Getchell will now be in the same 3A North division. This should create an exciting cross-town rivalry that is sure to deliver strong, friendly competitive match-ups in all sports.

This is what the realignment will look like:

Wesco 3A North: Everett, Marysville-Pilchuck, Marysville Getchell, Oak Harbor, Stanwood

Wesco 3A South: Glacier Peak, Meadowdale, Shorecrest, Shorewood, Mountlake Terrace

Wesco 4A North: Arlington, Lake Stevens, Monroe, Mount Vernon, Snohomish

Wesco 4A South: Cascade, Edmonds-Woodway, Jackson, Kamiak, Lynnwood, Mariner
