The Rotary Club of Arlington applauds excellent students who show a commitment to the community with its Student of the Month award. For November 2011, Grace Ziegler and Lilly Whitehead earned recognition and a $50 donation to a nonprofit school or organization on their behalf.
Grace Ziegler is a student leader at Haller Middle School in Arlington, where she sets a tone of respect, spirit and pride for her peers. An eighth grader, Grace is a member of the Haller ASB Executive Council and rotates ASB officer duties, serving as president this past fall.
In addition to taking advanced courses in math and English Language Arts, she plays in the eighth grade band and is a member of the Haller Volunteer Club and Inspiration Girls' club.
Lilly Whitehead, an eighth grader at Lakewood Middle School, is an accomplished student, musician and athlete. Academically, Lilly consistently earns a 4.0 GPA while participating in the districts' Highly Capable program since the 4th grade. She is a stellar math student and challenges herself with the district's most rigorous courses. During 6th, 7th and 8th grades, she earned the highest MSP Mathematics for the cohort with a perfect score twice on that state test. In addition, she earned a perfect score on her state writing exam in her seventh grade year, and level fours on math and reading exams.
As Lilly earns accolades academically, she continues to increase her skills as a musician. She leads the trumpet section in the Lakewood Middle School Band, often performing solos at plays and concerts.
Lilly rounds out her many contributions to Lakewood Middle School by participating in crosscountry and track teams. This year her efforts helped the girls' team take first place in both the Hole-in-the-Wall Invitational and the League finals.
