The first day of school for Arlington students is September 8, and local businesses and churches want to ensure every child comes to class prepared to learn.
On Sunday, Aug. 29, organizers will be on hand at Presidents Elementary, beginning at 2 p.m., to hand out 500 free backpacks filled with school supplies for Arlington elementary students. The event also includes free haircuts, dental checkups, information from Cascade Hospital, free food and fun activities for the kids.
Pre-registration is required, and both the child and a parent or guardian must attend the event. Visit www.arlingtonbackpack.com to register.
Organizers are also seeking community involvement to make the Back2School Rally a success. Donate school supplies at the Arlington Pharmacy, Local Scoop, Arlington Hardware, The School Box, Julie's Barber & Styling, Evonne's Antique Mall, or the Bookshelf. Haggen's in Arlington has developed a program to purchase supplies for the Rally as a package in the amounts of $5, $10, and $15.
Visit the website to find the complete supply list, or to volunteer to help at the event.
Back2School Rally is sponsored by a coalition of Arlington churches, including Arlington Assembly of God, Falcon Ridge Fellowship, Christ the King Community Church, The Commons, Lifeway Foursquare, Arlington Free Methodist and Arlington United Church.
